CHANDIGARH:  About 1200 students from various schools took part in poster making and slogan writing competitions which were held simultaneously at Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula today to mark the beginning of National Level Rajiv Gandhi Askshay Urja Diwas Celebrations.

The theme of the competitions was Renewable Energy and Global Warming. These competitions were a part of the National Level Function and the winners will be awarded in the main function to be held on August 20, 2008 at Panchkula.
        
While stating this here today, the Director of the Department of Renewable Energy and HAREDA, Ms Sumita Misra said that every year, the birthday of the former Prime Minister Mr Rajiv Gandhi was celebrated on August 20, all over the country as Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas. This year, Haryana was organizing the National Level Function on Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas, in association with the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy at Panchkula on August 20, 2008.
          
She said that about 300 students of Mohali, 400 of Chandigarh and 500 students of Panchkula participated in these competitions. The best ten entries each from Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula would be judged by a Jury for award of prizes from the tricity. The prizes carry a cash amount of Rs.5000 for the first prize, Rs. 4000 for the second prize, Rs. 3000 for the third prize and two consolation prizes of Rs. 1000 each alongwith a certificate of merit.
