AMRITSAR: President Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Paramjit Singh Sarna Wednesday questioned the recent appointment of Jathedar Akal Takht (highest Sikh Temporal Seat) Giani Gurbachan Singh.

Addressing the media persons here, Sarna lamented at Shriomani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Avtar Singh Makkar said that recent appointment of Jatehdar Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan was purely null and void as it was not according to Sikh tenets and rituals.

Sarna said that the way SGPC chief Makkar has appointed the new Jatehdar Akal Takht was never accepted to DSGMC, since all the norms that should be followed during the appointment were thrown to wind.

Sarna said that in the month of October this year, DSGMC would organize ‘Sikh Convention’ at Delhi wherein all Sikh intellectuals, heads of all Sikh originations all over the India and foreign countries would be invited to decide the next line of action against the SGPC which has installed Gyani Gurbachan Singh Jathedar Akal Takht through illegitimate way.

Sarna alleged that former Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti was forced to tender his resignation, since he was threatened to face dismissal by the SGPC chief Makkar allegedly on the behest of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Sarna also condemned Makkar for the misuse of power and the way he had forced Vedanti to tender his resignation as it had largely hurt the sentiments of Sikh community.

Sarna alleged that Vedanti was shown door since he had in his edict had asked the Sikh community to boycott the chief of Dera Sacha Sauda Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh and his followers. Badal has done secret settlement with the Sacha Sauda chief in view of coming next parliament elections to support Akal Dal, alleged Sarna. The removal of Vedanti was also the part of clandestine settlement between Sach Sauda and Badal, claimed Sarna.

Continuing further Sarna alleged that another major factor behind the removal of Vedanti was BJP. Since Vedanti has urged the Sikh community to support the honest Sikh Prime Dr. Manmohan Singh during vote of trust in the parliament and Badal was not in a position to ignore the directions of BJP supported by RSS.
