Youth Akali Dal workers come to the rescue of flood affected in Punjab Print E-mail

LUDHIANA: 43 trucks loaded with relief material including eatable items, tarpaulins and fodder arranged by district units of Youth Akali Dal (YAD) Ludhiana Urban and Ludhiana Rural have been dispatched for  the distribution  among the flood affected families in Ferozepur and Moga districts today.

 

Bikram Singh Majithia Minister for Information and Public Relations, Water and Sanitation Punjab flagged off the trucks from Grain Market Gill Road and Octroi Post at Ferozepur Road for the destination.

Addressing the workers,  Majithia said that the YAD had decided to shoulder the responsibility of mobilizing maximum flood relief material for the affected people and all the YAD district  units of non affected districts will sent relief materials to the affected areas and 1 dozen trucks of materials of eatable items and green fodder had already been sent from Patiala yesterday.  He said that the associations relating to trade, industries and other sectors were being involved in arranging the relief materials by the YAD leaders.
 
He appealed the traders, industrialist's particular and public in general to contribute maximum towards the flood relief for the affected people in the recent floods. He said that providing help to the affected people of the natural calamities was most pious and noble service to the suffering humanity.

He informed that total 66369 acres of areas and 73459 people have been affected from the floods and  1857 houses have been damaged.  26 human live have been lost during the rains and  30 cattle have also died. He added that 120 villages in Ferozepur district, 106 in Kapurthala, 85 in Ropar, 28 in Taran Taran and 14 villages in Jalandhar district affected during the floods.
 
 Simerjit Singh Bains District President YAD Ludhiana Urban informed that 11 more trucks loaded with relief materials would be sent tomorrow by District YAD Urban and apart from 23 trucks, the YAD urban arranged 5 more trucks of wheat straws direct from Zira.
