KAPURTHALA:  The Punjab police is looking for a youth from a village in this district who cut his father into pieces and then set the body parts on fire Tuesday night.

The victim, Baldev Singh, was brutally murdered by his son Sunny, 20, following a dispute over selling of land.

Police official Gurwinder Singh said the incident took place in Umraphul Phulewal village in this district late Tuesday night.

The police were called by villagers when they saw smoke coming out of the house of the victim around 3 a.m.

The youth was upset that his father was going to sell their land in the village against his wishes. The victim, police officials said, was alcoholic and had sold his land earlier also to pay off his debts.

The son cut his father’s body parts with a sword and tried to set it on fire. He later fled from the house.

The police have booked Sunny on a charge of murder and are looking for him.
