CHANDIGARH: Volvo Car India (VCI), manufacturers of luxury cars, today presented Abhinav Bindra with a brand new S80 for his outstanding achievement at the Olympic Games 2008 and making India proud by winning a gold medal.

Commenting on the occasion Paul de Voijs, Managing Director, Volvo Car India said, "It gives us immense pleasure to present Volvo S80 to Abhinav as he has done the country proud by winning a gold medal at Beijing Olympics. We are hopeful that he will get the same pleasure from driving Volvo as he gets from shooting."

"I am really honored by this kind gesture from Volvo Cars. The love and affection that I have received from everyone after winning the gold medal at Olympics has been overwhelming. I hope that we continue to shine brighter at the Olympic and do our country proud," Abhinav Bindra mentioned at the time of receiving the car.

"In addition to our dealers in Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh, we will soon have our dealers in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Cochin and Pune. Our target is to sell 400-500 cars by the end of this fiscal," Voijs told reporters here on the sidelines of a function, in which the company gifted Rs 44-lakh sedan to Olympic gold medalist.

Volvo, which has 10 cars in its portfolio at the moment, is also looking at launching two to three new models in future after testing and seeing the market response in the country, where it has so far sold 100 cars after its launch less than a year back.

Part of Volvo's portfolio at the moment includes three sedans, one station wagon, two convertibles and three cross-over model range.

VCI, a division of Ford Motor Company, had launched two of its flagship models, Volvo S80 and Volvo XC90, in September 2007.
