AMRITSAR: Distinguished Orthopedic, Dr. Hardas Singh, former IAS officer N.S. Rattan  and an eminent surgeon, Dr. Santokh Singh were Tuesday unanimously  elected as Syndics amongst the Senate of Guru Nanak Dev University till June 30, 2009.

Similarly the Senate also co-opted Professor Emeritus, Dr. Harjit Singh, Dr. Hardas Singh and N.S. Rattan, foremr IAS officer as members of the Senate of the University till June 30, 2010. 
An eminent economist, Dr. S.S. Johl, former Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala and Principal Jagdish Singh have unanimously been elected as members of the Finance Committee till June 30, 2010. The meeting also unanimously approved the Annual Report for the year 2007.

The meeting was presided over by Prof. Dr. Jai Rup Singh, Vice-Chancellor while Prof.  R.S. Bawa, Registrar presented the agenda.

The Vice-Chancellor told the House that the UGC has sanctioned a grant of Rs. 1.76 crores for various research projects during the period April 1 to April 22, out of which 1.29 crores had already been received by the University.

He informed the members that the University has decided to introduce Short Term Self-Financing courses of Punjabi Conversation, Punjabi Language, Punjabi Writing, Punjabi Folklore, Punjabi Culture and Literature for the convenience of Punjabis settled abroad. He said Video Conferencing facility has been provided in the Media Center established at the ground floor of the Senate Hall. Four Video calls and one Audio call could be made at a one time. This facility would help to conduct Viva and important meetings online.

Prof. Jai Rup Singh said during Afghanistan War, radiations weapons were used at a large scale. Consequently apart from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal are very badly affected with this radiation explosion. Due to this radiation explosion, a number of cases of chest and kidney diseases had been detected in these States. Keeping in view, Guru Nanak Dev University has decided to establish Radiation Laboratory to measure level of radiation.
