FATEHGARH SAHIB: District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Fatehgarh Sahib has directed Punjab State Education Board(PSEB) to make payment of Rs 20,000 for mental harassment to a student.
Anil Gupta, a resident of Mohalla Bara Behra, Bassi Pathana of district Fatehgarh Sahib had approached the Forum with the submission that his minor son Shivam Gupta was regular students of Holy Heart Public School, Bassi Pathana and appeared in class X exam of PSEB in March, 2007. In final examination, Shivam got good marks in the all subjects except in general science as he was declared fail in that subject by the Board. The student requested the PSEB to recheck the science paper and paid the requisite fee but the Board declared the result on July 24, 2007 as fail. Then on his behalf, his father had filed a writ petition in Punjab and Haryana High Court to recheck the sheet of general science of the student from any competent teacher . As and as per the direction of the court the Board checked the answer sheet of the student from two science teachers of Chandigarh and he was declared pass in general science and the marks of the student were enhanced from 10 to 27.5 and then the Board submitted the new result of the student before the court and the court disposed of the case on August 24, 2007 . The student father told the Forum that when the student was declared fail in the general science paper, he deposited the re-appear fee for re-examination to the Board and he also got coaching from a science teacher to clear his general science subject before giving reappear exam. Up to the declaration of result of the student as per the order of the court, the student remained under mental stress and he has also spent Rs 11,000 on unwanted litigation and has also paid re-examination fee due the deficiency of service on the part of the Board . Accepted the complaint and the Forum directed the PSEB to make payment of Rs 20,000 for mental harassment to the student and Rs 1,000 as cost of the complaint. |
