AMRITSAR:  Well known freedom fighter and social worker Er.Partap Singh Hanspal, who passed away at his residence Friday, was cremated at Shivpuri, Durgiana Mandir, where Paramjit Singh, ADC, Amritsar and .Sandeep Rishi, SDM, Amritsar placed floral wreaths on his body on behalf of the District administration. 

Dr.Jasdeep Singh, President IMA, Dr. M.L.Gambhir, Gen. Sect. IMA, Dr Daljit Singh, well known Eye Surgeon also offered floral tributes to the departed soul.

Er. Partap Singh Hanspal, son of revolutionary poet and nationalist Sodagar Singh Bhikhari of Kavi Kutia fame was born on 8th Feb, 1922 at Calcutta.During his Engineering education at Banaras Hindu University, he was arrested for his leading role in the Quit India movement in 1942 and was jailed in the  Mirzapur central jail UP along with his other class mates including the now retd.UNESCO Goodwill ambassadorMr. Madanjeet Singh.

After Independence he worked in the construction of Bhakra and Nangal Dam project and also the Pong Dam at Talwara before retiring as SE from Tubewell corporation Punjab .

After his retirement, he formed and led numerous social organizations and NGOs like Democratic rights association, Naree Chetna Manch, Amritsar Vichar Manch etc.  He was the consultant advisor of Amritsar Vikas Manch, Aalmi Punjabi Virasat, Punjab Taraksheel Society and many others.

 He led a very simple and auste life and was against the useless rites and rituals in our society. He worked for a corruption free Punjab and wanted a clean and Green Amrisar. He leaves behind three sons Dr.Navjot, Er. Navroop, Dr.Navpreet,  and two daughters Dr Navkiran and Dr Sarabjot.

Funeral was also attended by Dr HarMohinder Nagpal , Dr Inderbeir Nijjar, Dr Ravindarpal , Dr.Parmindar Singh(Taraksheel Society], Dr Charanjit Singh Gumtala, Patron,Amritsar Vikas Munch, Dr Iqbal Kaur Sond,  Prof Mohan Singh ,Er.Jasbir Singh Hanspal from Canada, Yashpal Chabal , leaders of different political parties and social organizations.
