PATIALA: General category employees of Punjab State Electricity Board held a massive rally on Friday at its head office to protest against the implementation of 85th amendment in the board.

JS Dhaliwal of the General category Welfare Federation told Newsline that some officials of the board fed the wrong information and were able to stop of promotions for the last one month. General category leaders brought the factual position to the notice of PSEB about the 85th amendment in the state and country.

85th Amendment of the constitution gives the benefit of accelerated promotion along with the seniority to SC/ST employees in the Government service. It was informed by various speakers that the constitutional bench of Supreme Court has issued the guidelines in the Nagrajan case that efficiency, exclusion of creamy layer and 50 percent limit for SC/ST employees should be observed.

Mukesh Puri, AL Bansal and SL Sharma also addressed the gathering. PSEB after seeing the reasons in the arguments of General category employees started the process of promotions as per existing seniority list.
