AMRITSAR:  Sounding bugle for Lok Sabha elections, Member Parliament Navjot Singh Sidhu, and Cabinet Minister, Punjab Bikram Singh Majithia, Saturday jointly addressed the gathering at Kathunangal in Majitha Constituency.

Conveying his thanks to the people for their support in the last Lok Sabha polls,. Sidhu hoped that they would once again exercise their franchise in his  favour and make him victorious by a still greater margin. He announced a grant of Rs. 15 lakh for the development of Majitha, Rs. 10 lakh for Chawinda and another Rs. 31 lakh for other development works in the Constituency.  He also distributed cheques worth Rs. 67 lakh to the Gram Panchayats of 69 villages falling in Kathunangal circle.

Speaking on the occasion, Bikram Singh Majithia said that the people of Majitha are indebted to Sidhu for his benevolence and would repay him by extending full support in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Talking on the development front, Majithia said that besides infrastructure developement attempts are being made to revamp the state of schools falling in the Constituency.

Declaring that Majitha Constituency will emerge as the forerunner region in the educational scenario amongst the rural regions of Punjab , Majithia revealed that 20 new Schools are being constructed in the region at the cost of Rs. 35 lakh each and many other schools are being upgraded to provide quality education. He said that nearly 7000 children will get an opportunity to obtain free of cost education in the newly constructed schools besides getting free boarding lodging, books and food.  The construction work of 8 schools out of the 20 schools to be set up has been completed, said he. Besides primary and secondary education attempts are being made to strengthen the higher education set up as well. Soon the region will get a  Khalsa College for Girls, located in Chawinda  and  admissions will formally commence in the institution from the next academic session onwards, said
Majithia.

The road network in Majitha will be strengthen by  the construction of 30 K.M. stretch of new roads at the cost of Rs. 20 crore and Rs. 1 crore will be spent on strengthening the Chawinda bypass, revealed Information and Public Relations Minister, Punjab. Besides this the up gradation of power grids, infrastructure development in the grain markets, laying of sewerage system and  ensuring supply of clean drinking water is in full swing, said he.
 
Later, Majithia redressed the grievances of Gram Panchayats of nearly 50 villages falling in Kathunanagal Circle and distributed cheques worth Rs. 1.54crore for the various development works in these villages.
