NAWANSHEHAR: Dal Khalsa has appealed to the followers of Namdhari and Radhaswami sects to discard the practice of worshiping a living "Guru" and rejoin the Sikh fold.
Stating that the tercentenary celebrations was a fit occasion for reiterating faith in Guru Granth Sahib, the organization president today said the practice of believing in living gurus ended with the Tenth Guru, who bestowed the guruship to Guru Granth Sahib. Harchranjit Singh Dhami, who was in town to speak at a seminar on the concept of 'Shabad-Guru' to mark the tercentenary of guruship to Granth Sahib organized by Dal Khalsa local unit with the support of Nirvair Sewa Society said both these sects use Gurbani and quote from Guru Granth Sahib but simultaneously follow the practice of worshipping a living guru. "Followers of both the sects were violating the directives of Tenth Guru by recognizing living gurus, which was in contrast to Sikh fundamentals and principles", Dhami remarked. He said schismatic groups like Sirsa Dera, Aushotosh etc were being encouraged, nurtured and patronized by the state machinery flagrantly to dilute the fundamental principles of the Sikhism and create divisions in Sikh society. While talking with the media persons the Dal Khalsa leader criticized Parkash Singh Badal for setting up the 'Satguru' Ram Singh Chair at GNDU few years back. He said despite various appeals by Sikh bodies, no consideration has been put into effect till date. Urging him again to rename it as 'Baba' Ram Singh Chair or something else more suitable, he said although Baba Ram Singh was a well-respect Sikh, but setting up of a chair in his name that address him as a Guru is a great sacrilege against Sikh values. He held Shiromani Akali Dal and Congress responsible for the rise of gurudom due to their narrow political benefits. Unhappy over the mode of functioning of the SGPC, he called for overhauling the apex body of the Sikhs. The speakers after speaker quoted hymns from Ardas (Daily prayer) "Agya Payi Akal Ki, Tabe Chalayo Panth, Sabh Sikhan Ko Hukam Hai, Guru Manyo Granth, to drive their point home. (By order of the God Almighty, the Khalsa Panth was formed. It is a diktat to all Sikhs that henceforth the Guru is only the Granth Sahib.) Others who spoke includes SGPC member Gurbakash Singh, seasoned journalist Karamjit Singh, Prof Avtar Singh, Shinderpal Singh, Harjit Singh and Parminder Singh. |
