CHANDIGARH: Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) engaged the consultant M/s Jurong Consultant Pte. Ltd. Singapore, for the preparation of Regional Plan of GMADA area and Master Plan of six Local Planing Areas within the jurisdiction of GMADA, namely Mullanpur, S.A.S Nagar, Kharar, Banur, Dera Basi and Zirakpur.

This was disclosed by Spokesman of GMADA said that the Consultant has submitted the Master Plan of Local Planning Area Mullanpur, covering an area of 6109 hectares comprising of revenue estate of 33 village. Master Plan has been proposed as low density country living, resort centre and Northern gateway to GMADA. It present opportunity for a well-managed Eco-town environment with a variety of new and exciting development to encourage diversified growth in tourism that balances economic growth with environmental, cultural and community values.

Mullanpur as an "Eco-town" is envisioned to rise as a distinctive and sustainable playground of the Greater Mohali Region. The existing rivers and their surrounding waterfronts will be enhanced to become Prime physical assets of Mullanpur. Mullanpur will enjoy the distinction of being Punjab's first eco-town. It shall offer new life style for the 21th century. It has been planned with new ideas to protect unique environmental, historical and cultural resources, capitalize on the regional assets and resources to promote dynamic and sustainable economic development and to ensure equitable distribution of resources-environmental, economic and social. The proposal submitted by the consultant M/s Jurong Singapore has been adopted as such without any change/modification either by GMADA or Town and County Planning Department, Punjab.

Master Plan has been proposed for 2.0 lakhs population by 2031 and 3.50 lakhs by 2056 with gross residential density of 100 persons per acre.
