AMRITSAR: On the occasion of birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahudar Shashtri Thursday, a blood donation camp was organized by the Jallianwala Bagh Shaeed Parivar Samiti (NGO) here today.
Members of the NGO said that blood donation camp was organized to awake the Government from deep slumber to grant the status of freedom fighter to the martyrs who were killed during the massacre of April 13, 1919 when Brigadier General Reginald Edward Harry Dyer did indiscriminate firing on innocent freedom fighters. There was tremendous response came out during the blood donation camp when sitting BJP MLA Anil Joshi along with numerous BJP activists appeared to donate blood. Shaheed –E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh youth Front (NGO) led by Gurmit Singh also turned up with dozens of people to donate blood. Director Principal of Spring Dale School Manveen Sandhu along with her school student and teachers also donated blood. Police personnel, media persons and dozens of tourists also voluntarily offered themselves for blood donation on this occasion. Manveen said that she was also paying homage through this blood donation camp to her grand father who was the eye witness of the massacre of Jallianwalla Bagh at the age of 25 when he was a student of Khalsa College Amritsar. Doctors from Guru Teg Bhadur Hospital of Government Medical College managed the Blood donation camp on the request of NGO Jallianwala Bagh Shaeed Parivar Samiti. However, District Administration today also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahudar Shashtri on their birth anniversary at Circuit House Amritsar. Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Kahan Singh Pannu, called upon the people to follow the ideals and principles propagated by Mahatma Gandhi. Pannu said that it is a matter of great pride that Gandhiji's Birth anniversary has been declared as the International Non –Violence Day by the United Nations. He said that today 'No Smoking Camapign ' will be launched Nation vide where by smoking at public places will be prohibited and added that he would try his best that it would be implemented in letter and spirit in the district. |
