CHANDIGARH: Paddy procurement picked up momentum in Punjab as 7.71 lac tones of paddy was procured in the State by Thursday.

According to an official spokesman by Thursday on PUNGRAIN procured 1,73,609 tonnes of paddy (25.7%) whereas MARKFED procured 1,76,657 tonnes of paddy (26.2%) PUNSUP procured 1,52,848 tonnes of paddy (22.7%) whereas Punjab State Warehousing Corporation procured 87,407 tonnes of paddy (13%) besides 75,699 tonnes of paddy (11.2%) procured by Punjab Agro. The Central Government Agency FCI procured only 8,547 tonnes of paddy (1.3%). The Millers procured 96,332 tonnes of paddy (12.5%) on the 4th day of procurement.

The mandis in Amritsar division recorded 3,10,458 tonnes of paddy with Tarn Taran recording maximum paddy on the 4th day to the tune of 1,07,370 tonnes. The mandis of Ferozepur division recorded 4,28,936  tonnes of paddy with maximum of 1,73,915 tonnes of paddy being recorded by Ferozepur district.
