KURUKSHETRA: Overlooking an appeal by the Akal Takht Jathedar, the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) has asserted that it would take up the 'sewa' of 6th Patshahi Gurdwara here after the expiry of the October eight ultimatum served on the Haryana government to take a decision on a separate gurdwara management committee for the state.
A decision to go ahead with the 'sewa' was taken in a meeting of the adhoc committee of the Haryana SGPC last night, its president Sardar Jagdish Singh Jhinda said on Monday. ''It is unfortunate that neither the Haryana government nor the state congress party has delivered on its election manifesto promise to set up a separate SGPC for the Sikhs of Haryana,''he said. The Haryana SGPC had last month threatened that it would take over the historic gurdwaras in Haryana if their demand for a separate sikh shrine body for Haryana was not met by October eight. Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh had then made an appeal to Haryana SGPC leaders not to go ahead with such a step and wait till the completion of the Guruta Gaddi celebrations so that the matter could be settled amicably. Mr Jhinda said the decision to take over the sewa of the Chhainvi Patshahi Gurdwara on October eight was final but if the SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar intervened to accept their their demand, they could have rethink on their decision. ''If any untoward incident happens while taking up the sewa of the Gurdwara on October 8, the whole responsibility will lie with the Haryana government and the SGPC as the Sikhs do not want any bloodshed in this matter,'' he added. He alleged that the Amritsar-based SGPC had not done anything for the welfare of Sikhs of Haryana and had siphoned off the offerings of the Gurdwaras in the state to Punjab. ''The Sikhs in Haryana are not happy with the state of affairs run by the SGPC,'' he added. |
