AMRITSAR: In a significant development sleuths of (directorate of Revenue Intelligence) DRI Monday let off the female Harinder Kaur (58) who was yesterday arrested along with her husband Raminder Singh (60) for carrying 3.73 kilograms heroin drugs worth Rs. 4 crore on board.
DRI official informed that Harinder Kaur during the investigation was found innocent as she was unaware that her husband was carrying drug in his possession and that is why she was let off from the drug charges and freed. However, Raminder Singh was produced in Amritsar before the (chief judicial magistrate) CJM who sent him in judicial custody in the central jail Amritsar for October 20. Yesterday, the pilot of Air India's Amritsar- Birmingham flight was asked to abort take off and an elderly NRI couple Harinder Kaur and her husband Raminder Singh off-loaded and later arrested for allegedly carrying narcotic drugs in their baggage worth nearly Rs. 4 crore. Elderly couple was arrested, when the flight--IC 187--was ready to take off after the doors of the aircraft--a Boeing 777-200-- had been closed and the pilot was asked to return from the runway of the Raja Sansi international airport by the Air Traffic Control (ATC) following a tip off that two passengers could be ferrying narcotics. The couple was scheduled to fly to Toronto after a stopover at Birmingham. The baggage of the passengers had earlier been cleared in the normal course by the airport authorities and the two were allowed to board, said DRI official. |
