Robbers attack on Diamond trader Print E-mail

PHAGWARA: About half dozen unidentified armed robbers,attacked and seriously wounded One Mumbai based  Diomonds trader Vivesh Shah(38) and snatched diomonds worth Rs 1.75 Crores between Goraya and Phillaur on national highways on Thursday.

Phillaur DSP Rajinder Singh Sohal while confirming the robbery,told this correspondent today that the victim diamond trader came to Ludhiana in Shatawadi Express, sold required diamonds among Ludhiana traders and proceeded towards Amritsar in a hired Tata Indica Car (Green) after 6.45PM.

DSP Sohal said that according to complaint lodged with Phillaur Police,the victim trader said that the robbery was committed with the connivances of taxi driver as the said taxi driver stopped the taxi near Bakapur crossing saying he has to ease himself, and meanwhile four to five unidentified robbers struck there, and asked Vivesh shah to come out from the taxi and took away the bag containing diamonds worth Rs 1.75 Crores, when he resisted the robbers attacked upon him with sharp-edged weapons and sped away alongwith the diamonds bag and his taxi  and taxi driver who was said to be the accompliance of the robbers. SSP jalandhar alongwith other senior police officials rushed to the spot.

DSP Sohal said that police has registered a case under section 392IPC and the victim trader was admitted in Phillaur hospital. DSP sohal said that sketches of the robbers would soon be released and minute investigation has been started, but no arrest could be made till so for. However DSP said that the robbers must be chasing the trader during his activities in Ludhiana.
