German based Punjabi NRI arrested for marrying four women Print E-mail

PHAGWARA:  Punjab police Thursday arrested a German based  NRI and his family members for cheating many women on the pretex of marring them.

The NRI identified as Gurdev Chand, his father Tersem Lal, Mother Jeeto, Sister-in-laws Banso and Dhanti all residents of Bholath were arrested under section 420/494/120B IPC on the charges of cheating four women under the cover of marrying them.

Phillaur DSP Rajinder Singh Sohal told newsmen tonight that the arrested NRI first married with UK based woman Mariya Chand in 1990 who had delivered two sons namely John (12) and David (10). DSP said after living two years with that woman he came to India and married with a woman Poonam of Palampur in Himachal Pardesh in 1992. All the marriages were solemnised with the consent and connivances of his own family members who were also booked.

Sohal said that then NRI Gurdev Chand married with one Rajinder Kaur of nearby village Partapura in Phillaur Sub Division in 2005. DSP told that no issue was delivered by Poonam and Rajinder,  meanwhile the accused NRI G again married with one Rozy of Kapurthala on September 10 this year, which came to the notice of Rajinder Kaur who lodged a written complaint with Phillaur Police which swiftly acted and arrested the accused.

Meanwhile it was also learnt that the said accused NRI was again going to marry with  fifth girl in district Hoshiarpur, who was saved by the timely arrest of the accused by Phillaur Police.
