Punjab's lady drug smuggler, three others sent to judicial custody

PHAGWARA: All four drugs smugglers including their lady kingpin  Jeewan Lata who were arrested alongwith 5.17kg of heroin near Phagwara on friday by a team of DRI were produced produced before Judicial Magistrate Phagwara who sent them in judicial custody for 14 days.



Earlier In a special secret operation conducted by teams of directorate of revenue intelligence and central excise officers, a gang of drug peddlers, led by Chandigarh resident Jeevan Lata, was busted and 5.17 kg heroin  worth Rs 25 Crores ( International Market Price) was seized from them near Phagwara yesterday. Jeewan Lata, along with her three accomplices including her brother-in-law Kuldeep of Beas, brother  Ashwini Kumar and Ajit of Jalandhar were nabbed during special operation of DRI.

According to information, the recovered consignment  brought from Afganistan was received at Zandiala and was being carried from Jandiala towards Chandigarh in a car. A Santro was spotted by officials of the DRI and the central excise department near Phagwara and the drug was seized,while the car was also impounded..

Sources in the DRI informed  that Jeevan Lata, who was earlier running a travel agency at Jalandhar, was the leader of the gang and was now operating from Chandigarh, where she is residing at present.

Sources told this correspondent that three mobile phones were also seized from the accused and details of the mobile phones was being researched .It was learnt that the entire family of the Jeewan Lata was said to be involved in Drugg Smuggling,while her son Vishal was also nabbed in Delhi recently. Jeewan Lata was known as Don and was involved in this anti-nation crimes for a long time.She had several links in Canada, and was sending drugs to Canada under the cover of religious material.She was also a travel agent who was cheating several youths on the pretext of sending them abroad.It was also learnt that she had a large network in different states including Punjab<Haryana,and Delhi.Investigations were still on.
