ANANDPUR SAHIB: On the occasion of ‘Holla-Muhalla’ celebrated with ‘Kesri’ fervour, Sikh Nation Organisation spearheading global campaign against Turban Ban in France, appealed to all Sikhs to wear ‘Kesari-Dastars’ the golden yellow head wear on coming ‘Vaisakhi’ celebrations world over, to highlight the importance of Turban and 5-Ks for Sikhs to the international community.
Dr. Manjit Singh Randhawa ‘Bholeke’, President of the Sikh Body said here today that France is slated to appear before the Human Rights Committee in May 2009, for ‘Periodic review of Rights of Child.’ The proposed timely global action will focus the issue, to help build effective world opinion and pressure on France for early “review of the Law” as per clear-cut verdict of United Nations on the issue. Dr. Randhawa disclosed, that after examining France under ‘Special Procedure for Human Rights Violations,’ following a petition of Sikh Nation Organisation admitted by United Nations’ Human Rights Commission on 17th March 2004 under 1503-Procedure, U.N. Human Rights Committee, in categorical verdict pronounced in July last year had directed Government of France for “review of the law” banning religious symbols, since the “French Law violated International Convents on Human Rights.” The controversial ‘penal law’ enacted on 15th March 2004 imposed “legal ban on wearing of religious dress and symbols” in primary and secondary schools of France that subsequently led to expulsion of 47 Muslim and Sikh students from Government schools for defying the law. |
