CHANDIGARH: Indian Oil Corportion of Mumbai began their campaign with victory as they beat All India Associate Banks Bangalore by two wickets in a pool A opening match of the 13th prize money All India J.P. Atray Cricket Tournament at DAV School in Sector 8 here Sunday.
Winning the toss Associate Bank's skipper Ravikant Shukla opted to bat. They lost opener Daniel Manohar cheaply as he was trapped in front by medium pacer Murtaza Hussein for 4. Hussein went on to return impressive figures of 4 for 42 of 10 overs with his incisive right arm medium pace bowling. He was ably supported by Anand Rajan (2 for 32). Vijay Kumar (24), B. Akhil (22), Jatin Saxena (26), Rajiv Sirhandi (27) Anand Katti (22) were the main scorers for the bankmen. The seventh wicket stand of 46 runs between Jatin Saxena and Rajiv Sarhandi was the most productive stand of the bankmen's innings. Associate Banks finally folded up for 193 runs in 43.5 overs. Indian Oil Corporation started their reply with Mithun Beerala and Ravi Teja who put on 46 runs for the opening wicket before the former was caught by wicketkeeper Pankaj Dharmani of left arm spinner Anand Katti for 13. However, Ravi Teja went on to pile up 75 runs with the help of nine four in 112 balls. The other notable contributors for Indian Oil were Pinal Shah (21) and Nikhil Patil (27). The Indian Oil overhauled the bankmen's total in 47.4 overs for the loss of 8 wickets and romping home victors by two wickets, the final score being 197 for 8. For the loser's left arm spinner Anand Katti returned the most impressive figures (10-2-17-2).
