AMRITSAR: The present day Punjab presents a picture of lawlessness. The government has virtually failed to enforce the rule of law and deal with culprits. This was stated here Friday by Kanwarpal Singh Bittu spokesman of Dal Khalsa.
Kanwarpal Singh said that the Akali politics has touched a new low and in the process Akalis has exhibited that they have scant care for human rights and rule of law. The three major incidents in three weeks have brought unprecedented shame for the government in Punjab.
He added that the hordes of lumpen elements spreading mayhem, burning and looting public and private property in the wake of killing of self-styled Sant Rama Nand of Dera Ballan in Vienna, Akali Dal councilor Kamaljeet Singh Karwal along with some 30 hoodlums of the Akali Dal beating up, stripping, kicking, dragging and humiliating a senior revenue official Major Gurinder Singh Benipal and Akali activists beating up Amarjit Singh, Additional Superintendent Engineer of Punjab State Electricity Board, shows the pathetic picture of an Akali regime.
He stated, "But perhaps neither the Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal nor his deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal has realized the amount of damage such incidents has done in tarnishing the image of the Shiromani Akali Dal, which has been ironically converted into single family show by duo father-son. It is indeed a time for the so called Taksali leadership of the Akali Dal to pay attention to where such deviations and aberrations will land the SAD a few years from now".
He added that while the hordes of goons had a field day in Punjab, the dilly-dallying on part of the CM and his coterie was more shocking and disgusting. Moreover, it would be preposterous to think that Akalis under Junior Badal will rein in the law-breakers within their ranks as they have been mis(using) their muscle power either to fix their opponents or indulge in wanton vandalism to win elections then and now.
Dal Khalsa leader said that it’s disturbing that neither the courts nor the Governor has taken suo motto notice of these inhuman acts of Akali hoodlums. We strongly condemn the indifferent and biased approach of the administration while dealing with cases in which people close to power are involved. We appeal to the affected sections to jointly wage a battle for all round justice for the people of Punjab.
