CHANDIGARH: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tuesday categorically ruled out forging alliance with any political party or group in Punjab in the run up to the assembly polls. Both SAD and Congress were trying to tap BSP for assembly elections.
"The BSP will contest on all the 117 seats in Punjab at its own," BSP National General Secretary Narender Kumar Kashyap told a press conference here. Kashyap, who is also incharge of political affairs of party in Punjab, Uttaranchal and Uttar Pradesh, said that the decision by the party to go alone in Punjab polls was taken following the consent of party supremo Mayawati. He said that the party had already finalised candidates for 50 seats and the rest would be done very soon. Claiming that after the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-BJP and Congress the BSP was the only alternative for the people of the state, he said that "BSP is emerging as the third force in Punjab." He said that the BSP was not contesting the ensuing assembly polls in Punjab to increase its vote share but to form the next government. |
