CHANDIGARH: Tourists on ‘HOP ON & HOP OFF’ bus were pleasantly surprised when smartly attired, well trained girls and boys welcomed them and became their useful guides.
These students were from Chandigarh College of Hotel Management and thought of devoting whole Tourism Day with the tourists, guiding them about the historical and architectural history of each tourist spot of Chandigarh.
The tourists were surprised by the thorough and indepth knowledge of ‘student guides’ which made their trip to Chandigarh a memorable trip. It may be added that students were given 15 day conditioning course in architectural and historical aspects of various tourist spots of Chandigarh by old associates of Le Corbusier, the French town planner of Chandigarh.
Three other batches of students welcomed the tourists at Chandigarh Airport, Chandigarh Railway station and Sukhna Lake. The passengers alighting from Shatabdi were stumped as smart girls welcomed them with rose sticks. It was pleasant experience for the passengers because this time instead of haggling with scoter-rickshaw drivers, the students guided them to prepaid auto rickshaw counters and organized transport for every tourist desirous of boarding scoter rickshaw or taxi.
The Chandigarh Group of Colleges has been celebrating the World Tourism Day since last five years on 27th September every year to inculcate the spirit for spreading appeal for tourism development among students. This year World Tourism Day was commemorated under the theme ‘Tourism-Celebrating Diversity’.
