CHANDIGARH: Markfed Blood Trust, an employees body of Punjab Markfed organized a Blood Donation Camp today at its Head Office in Chandigarh in association with Rotary & Blood Bank Society, Resource Centre, Sec.37, Chandigarh under the supervision of Dr.Manish Rai, Blood Transfusion Officer.
Mrs. Amrita Atwal, Additional Managing Director, Markfed, who inaugurated the camp appreciated the efforts of Markfed employees and the Doctors team for rendering cooperation for this social cause. As many as volunteers donated blood. On the occasion the importance of blood donation was envisaged by the Doctors and a film on Thalasemia was also shown. It was stressed that people should come forward to join hands for this noble gesture. It was also highlighted that the deadly decease of Thalassemia can be avoided by the screening of blood samples of the couples before marriage in the future generation. A regular life long blood transfusion is necessary on fortnightly/monthly basis for Thalaseaemic children. There is a dire need to encourage more and more people to donate blood at regular intervals in order to ensure that the requirement of pure and safe blood is adequately fulfilled.
