PANCHKULA: As exected New Public School, Sector 18, Chandigarh claimed boys as well as girls titles in the 6th Emily Gosain Memorial B’Ball Tournament organised by  St Xavier’s  High School in Sector 20 here today.

In the boys final played today at St Xavier’s School courts, NPS boys defeated St Xavier’s School, Sector 44, Chandigarh by 45-29 after leading 27-14 at half time.  New Public School went on to take home the girls trophy also after defeated St Kabir School of Chandigarh with a hard-fought victory by 29-25 points. The winners were leading by  11-7 at half time.

Sarfraz and Gurmeet emerged the star performers for NPS boys team who defeated St Xavier’s School-44 in a well-contested final. Moving up with proper coordination, Sarfraz basketed 14 points and Gurmeet contributed 13 points. Gurjot and Anmol scored 9 and 8 points, respectively, for St Xavier’s School.

New Public School completed a memorable double as their girls registered an exciting win against St Kabir by 29-25 in an absorbing final. NPS virtually owed it to Anica Kanwar who topscored with 14 points. Neha contributed four valuable points. For St Kabir, Shriya and Pavani got eight and six points, respectively.

Shishu Niketan-22 of Chandigarh beat hosts St Xavier’s School of Panchkula by 42-38 (half time 23-16) in a match to decide the third and fourth positions in the boys section.

Results: Boys:  For third and fourth places:  Shishu Niketan, Chd  (Simran 22, Rahul 6)   bt     St. Xavier’s Panchkula  (Sarfraz  15, Jagraj 12) by 42 – 38 (half time 23 – 16).

Final:  New Public School-18, Chd (Sarfraz 14, Gurneet 13) bt bt St Xavier’s School-44, Chd (Gurjot 9, Anmol 8) by 45-29 (27-14).

Girls (final):  NPS , Chd (Anica Kanwar 14, Neha 4) bt St Kabir’s School, Chd (Shriya 8, Pavani 6) by 29-25 (HT  11-7).
