CHANDIGARH: “Guru Phir Ho Ja Shuru” was the welcome slogan of supporters of Navjot Singh Sidhu who emerged out of Punjab and Haryana Hiogh Court Wednesday after hearing the sentence awarded to him in a homicide case. .
He was mobbed by his supporters and battery of journalists camping outside the court complex since morning. Sidhu who is known for his laughter and his satirical style in India’s first Great Laughter Challenge TV programme, was smiling and waiving to his supporters. The media had a tough time running from one gate to the other to catch Sidhu in camera and take his reaction after the verdict. Around 4 PM he came out of court through the High Court Bar Association room. The lawyers and litigants in the court were seen taking positions in balconies to have a glimpse of Sidhu who also seemed to have earned sympathy along with sentence. The large number of supporters of Sidhu were present outside the court complex with banners of “Navjot Sidhu Zindabad” and even raised slogans until police intervened and requested not to raise slogans. Satya Pal Jain BJP MP from Chandigarh had also requested BJKP workers to keep calm in the court complex. It was chaos in the Bar Association room where Sidhu had stayed for a cup of tea with certain lawyers. A group of lawyers also hooted Sidhu to go out of Bar room since he is not member of the bar. Many of Sidhu’s supporters vent their ire against the state government for taking undue interest in Sidhu case. Jasbir Kaur president of Punjab Mahila wing of BJP said that Congress government had filed an appeal against Sidhu and then requested for early hearing due to political reasons. She said that they would stand behind Sidhu like a rock. BJP state president Avinash Rai Khanna was also present during hearing but he didn’t give his comments |
