‘Ardas – Divas’ and memorial set up for 1984 Anti Sikh riot victims is a political gimmick: Khaira Print E-mail

BHOLATH: The observation of ‘Ardas – Divas’ and subsequent announcement of Sukhbir Badal and his father to set up grievances redressal committee and a memorial for the 1984 Anti Sikh riot victims is nothing but a political gimmick aimed at restoring the lost credibility of the SAD amongst the Sikhs.

MLA Bholath, Sukhpal singh khaira stated That announcement of setting up of grievances redressal committee to be headed by Badal CM after 25 long years is infact admission of complete inaction on the part of SAD as well as the SGPC to fight the cause of riot victims earlier.

There is not an iota of doubt that failure to punish those guilty of the 1984 carnage amounts to justice delayed, justice denied in my personal opinion but as far as Sukhbir Badal’s raising the issue after 25 years later is nothing but shedding crocodile tears.

Khaira wish to ask Sukhbir Badal as to what he and his father did for the 1984 riot victims when he served as Union Minister in the Vajpayee lead NDA govt. in the centre from 1999-2004 while his father remained CM Punjab from 1997-2002.

Did you ever raise this issue in the parliament or the Rajya Sabha in your 10 long years as MP? Did your father rehabilitate or offer even a single riot victim a govt. job either in the earlier tenure or in the present tenure? Is it not a fact that it was Prakash Singh Badal’s statement in the first week of June in 1984 immediately after operation Blue Star urging all Sikhs serving in the govt. of India to rise in rebellion, which led to the mutiny by Sikhs in army? Did your father ever help even one army deserter who are languishing in jails till date?

Further the Congress attributes dichotomy in your politics, while on one hand you’re seeking justice for the riot victims on the other hand you have launched a well planned vendetta drive under which you have registered over 5000 false cases against Congressmen. Will you give justice to victims of police atrocities under your nose in Punjab? Till you fail to render justice to aggrieved victims of police atrocities in Punjab, all such efforts to secure justice for 1984 victims would be seen as political stunts aimed merely for public digestion without any substance. I also dare you to an open public debate on this matter.
