Haryana Enhances grant for Scheduled Castes living below poverty line

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the State Government has decided to increase the grant money under the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshani Vivah Shagun Scheme for the marriage of daughters of people belonging to scheduled castes living below poverty line and widows of all sections of society.



Besides for the marriage of daughters of BPL families of all sections of society from Thursday, on the birth Anniversary of late Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi.

While giving the details about the scheme, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Geeta Bhukkal said that now with this enhancement the people of Scheduled Castes living below poverty line and widows of all sections of society would get Rs. 31,000 instead of Rs.15,000 while  BPL families of all other categories would get Rs. 11,000 instead of Rs. 5100.
     
She said that about 8400 families would be benefitted from this Scheme this year at a cost of Rs. 11.4 crores and during the next year (2010-11) this scheme is likely to benefit over 23,000 families and will cost the exchequer around Rs. 55 crore.
     
Bhukkal said that to get the benefit of this scheme the girl should attained the age of 18 years and the name of beneficiaries should be included in the list of Below Poverty Line (BPL). She said that the grant would be available only upto the marriage of two daughters in the family. The women who become widow or divorcee and want remarriage could also avail the benefit of this scheme, she added.
