Tamilnadu to host PYKKA National Competitions Print E-mail

PATIALA: The Group-I national level sports competitions, under the Govt. of India sports promotion scheme of Panchayat Yuva Krida aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA), would be organized by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, at Chennai, from 21 to 24 November, 2009.   

Under Group-I, competitions are organized in the sports disciplines of Athletics, Basketball, Taekwondo, Wrestling and Weightlifting.
          
The Group-II national level competitions, in the disciplines of Football, Badminton, Table Tennis, Wushu and Gymnastics would be held at SAI Central Centre, Bhopal, from 10 to 13 January 2010.
          
Punjab has opted to host Group-III competitions in Archery, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, and Boxing from 10 to 13 January, 2010 ; while Group-IV competitions would be organized by Karnataka, at Bangalore from 28 to 31 January, 2010.
          
All the States / UTs, who have availed the facility of financial grants for conducting the lower level competitions of block, district and state level are bound to participate in these national level competitions.

The ongoing All India Rural Sports Programme of the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has been subsumed in PYKKA, to facilitate the comprehensive development of sports in the rural sector.
          
The SAI NS NIS also releases a grant of Rs.3 lac,  per discipline,  to the host state, for organization of the national level competitions.  Trophies, shields, medals, certificates and utility prizes worth Rs.50,000/-, per disciplines, are awarded at these competitions.

A team of SAI officials visits the venue, during the competitions, to assist the State Governments, in the organization of these national level competitions
