AMRITSAR: The Dal Khalsa took exception over the manner Five Jathedar’s have pronounced religious punishment against Haryana SGPC members for violating “maryada” by forcibly seizing the gurdwara at Kurukshetra, summoned former Akal Takht jathedar Prof Darshan Singh for allegedly narrating a rather objectionable tale by connecting it to the tenth Sikh Guru, sought explanation from DSGMC chief Paramjit Singh Sarna for disallowing Danga Pirat Society president Kuldip Singh Bhogal to offer Akhand Path in a gurdwara and sidelined the demand of Khalsa Action Committee to convene all-party meet on Sirsa dera issue.
In a hard hitting statement, Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwarpal Singh said there’s a growing sense that the jathedar Akal Takht has drifted from his role and responsibility. The neutrality of the Akal Takht institution has eroded with the biased approach of its jathedar Gaini Gurbachan Singh, he alleged. The concept of Hukamnama have become hazed over the years because of the manner in which edicts have been handed over in recent years –from the blatant interventionist to the utterly ridiculous and the politically motivated. He urged the Five Takht jathedar's to explain why they have always been lenient towards Badal and his coterie in spite of the long list of complaints submitted at Akal Takht from time to time against them for violating Sikh code of conduct. Why has been Akal Takht silent against those who hobnobbed with Sirsa dera head during LS elections despite Akal Takht banning any sort of relations with him, he questioned. Ironically, the complaint against Amritsar sitting MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, who violated Sikh code of conduct by performing Hindu rituals (havan) and wearing janehoo (sacred thread) on July 17 last year at Baba Lal Dayal Mandir has been gathering dust in the files of Akal Takht secretariat. He said it was ironic that far from safeguarding the Sikh principles and doctrine, they have become weapon in the hands of their political masters to “fix” their rivals. |
