GND Varsity to host 12th Asian Federation of Sports Medicine Congress from Dec 3 to 6

AMRITSAR: The 12th Asian Federation of Sports Medicine (AFSM) Congress is being organized by the Faculty of Sports Medicine & Physiotherapy of Guru Nanak Dev University from December 3-6 here.
Dr. M.S. Gill, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports would perform the inaugural ceremony on December 4.
Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Head, Department of Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy and Dean of the concered facutly of the University said that this is for the first time that India is hosting an International Congress on Sports Medicine.
He said that in this grand event around 1200 delegates including Orthopaedicians, Sports Scientists, Exercise Physiologists, Sports Psychologists, Sports Nutritionists, Athletic trainers and Physiotherapists from India and abroad are going to participate. In this Congress delegates from over 46 Asian countries and from Austria, Brazil, Belgium, Nigeria, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, Sweden, U.K. and U.S.A are participating. He said that 144 research papers will be presented during the congress related to recent trends and advancements made in the field of sports medicine and sports sciences.
He said that during this congress two-day pre-congress courses would be conducted on December 3-4 followed by symposia’s from December 5-6. These courses include specifically designed internationally accredited courses and workshops for doctors, physiotherapists and other professionals on wide range of topics pertaining to sports medicine, exercise physiology, rehabilitation, sports nutrition, kinanthropometry, sports psychology etc to provide and disseminate the scientific research on a common platform.
