PU starts work for constructing Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Bhavan |

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University Chandigarh initiated the work of constructing Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Bhavan on Tuesday. Mangal Verma, Canada based Panjab Unversirty alumnus and Prof. R. C. Sobti, Vice- Chancellor Panjab University performed the Takk ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. R.C. Sobti highlighted the objective of building the Bhavan. He emphasized that for the all round development of Panjabi Language, Literature and culture all the related Chairs and the departments shall be housed under one roof of the Bhavan. These will include Guru Nanak Chair, Bhai Vir Singh Chair, Sheikh Farid Chair, Guru Ravi Das Chair, Guru Granth Sahib Chair (yet to be instituted), Departments of Panjabi and Lexicography. The Bhavan shall have a rich library in the middle of the Bhavan, covered by fibre glass allowing the entry of unobstructed sun light comparable to Divine Light. The initial budget of the Bhavan is Rs. five crores and the building shall be completed at the earliest.On the occasion, enthusiasm amongst teachers, employers and students was worth seeking. Prof. Jaspal Kaur Kaang and Prof. A. S. Ahluwalia said that it was a momentous occasion for the University and shall be remembered for a long time to come.The ceremony was followed by Guru Ka Langar.
