Ludhiana women claim overall trophy in Punjab State Games for Women Print E-mail

LUDHIANA TEAM

LUDHIANA: Hosts Ludhiana bagged the overall trophy with 21 points in the Punjab State Games for Women at the Guru Nanak Stadium here. Sangrur were runners-up with 20 points.

Jalandhar had to remain satisfied themselves with the third positon with 17 points on Thursday.

Jalandhar won the athletic trophy by securing 59 points.  Sangrur secured 37 points for the runners-up trophy. Ludhiana finished third with 21 points. In 4x400 metres relay Jalandhar bagged gold clocking 4:00.57. Sangrur won silver in 4:18.57 and Ludhiana got bronze in 4:24.12

Ludhiana defeated Sangrur in badminton final. Staffi Kala of Ludhiana beat Damanpreet Kaur 21-17,2 1-15 whereas Staffi and Harveen outpointed Muskan Sohi and Damanpreet Kaur 21-11, 21-17. Jalandhar and Patiala were jointly awarded the bronze medal.

Ludhiana got the better of Amritsar by 51-45 in the basketball final. Kiranjit Kaur scored 19 for the winning side. Jagroop Kaur’s efforts went in vain despite scoring 31 points. Jalandhar outplayed Patiala by 70-38 for bronze.

The kho-kho title went to Sangrur who defeated Patiala by 5-3, 3-2 in the final. Ludhiana beat Jalandhar 5-3, 3-2 for bronze Medal.

Displaying fine stickwork Kapurthala outplayed Tarn Taran by 4-1 in the hockey final. Amritsar won bronze as they outclassed Jalandhar by 6-1. .    

The Ludhiana swimmers ruled the pool and collected 70 points for the gold medal. Roop Nagar won silver by getting 31 points and Jalandhar got bronze with 9 points. Amritsar bagged gold in table tennis by defeating Jalandhar 3-1 in the final. Roop Nagar outplayed Ludhiana for third position.

In volleyball final, Sangrur defeated Jalandhar 25-19, 25-15, 25-23 to win gol.  Mukatsar captured bronze with a hard-fought 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-23 win over Amritsar.

Patiala defeated Jalandhar by 27-17 in the kabaddi final. Ludhiana and Sangrur jointly got bronze. 

Punjab Cabinet Minister for Jails, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Hira Singh Gabrhia gave away prizes.  He also appreciated the activities of Punjab Sports Department for the promotion of sports in Punjab.

Assistant Director Sports S L Lotet welcomed the chief guest. Also present on the occasion were Ludhiana Deputy Director. Vikas Garg, Deputy Director Sports  Harpal Singh Kanwar and Deputy Director Sports Jalandhar Division Hazari Lal Sharma.
