LUDHIANA: Senior expert from Netherlands, Dr. Anne-Marie Reinders, DVM imparted two weeks long hands-on training on Veterinary Echocardiography and abdominal ultrasonography at Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana.
Total 24 scientists and post graduate students has participated in this training course on Veterinary Echocardioigrapy. Dr. Anne-Marie is a senior expert working with PUM, which is an international organization whose Headquarter is in Hague, Netherlands. During this training the Lectures, practical demonstrations and hands on practice on Veterinary Echocardiography and advanced techniques in abdominal ultrasonography in small animals were conducted. During this training Dr. Anne-Marie Reinders delivered presentations on echocardiographic diagnosis of various diseases of heart like mitral and tricuspid valve insufficiency, dilated cardiac myopathy, aortic stenosis and hypertrophic cardiac disease. Faculty members and postgraduate students of this department were provided training to diagnose heart diseases in dogs and cats. Presentations and hands-on-training were also given on diagnosis of various diseases of kidneys, adrenal glands, gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, spleen, urinary bladder, uterus and ovary by ultrasonogarphy. Dr. Narinder Singh Saini, Professor-cum-Head who is also Principal Officer Reporting for this project thanked the PUM for granting this project and giving opportunity to acquire knowledge about echocarediography and abdominal ultrasonography in small animals and the faculty has been enriched with the practical experience. However, he felt that in due course of time this department needs the help of PUM for strengthening the capabilities of scientists for advanced echocardiographic and abdominal ultrasonographic procedures. Dr. Saini further said that the department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology has ultrasound machines suitable for abdominal and cardiac ultrasonographic examinations in small and large animals that cater the need of animal patients coming for diagnosis and treatment to this department from all over the Punjab and adjoining states of Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, J & K and Rajasthan. Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean College of Veterinary Sciences, GADVASU commented that training imparted by Dr. Anne-Marie will go a long way to develop the field of Veterinary diagnostic imaging and will take the department and college to its newer heights. Dr. O.S. Parmar, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU, who was coordinator for this project emphasised the need of such training programmes in other fields of specialization in GADVASU. Earlier also under the PUM Project the two experts from Netherlands imparted trainings one in the fields of animal nutrition and other in field of use of ultrasonography in animal reproduction. Dr. Parmar further suggested that experts from this university should be sent for advanced training programmes so that university can develop the expertise to the international level. |
