CHANDIGARH: Youth Power-Igniting Hopes (N.G.O.) in collaboration with the Department of Gandhian Studies, PU organized a Seminar on Child Labour Eradication-Role of Youth in Gandhi Bhawan.
Professor Manohar Lal Sharma, Chairman of the Department of Gandhian Studies on Tuesday introduced the theme of the Seminar and highlighted the contemporary relevance and significance of the subject in question and pointed out that the number of child laboureres in India is the highest in the world and it is our moral duty to fight with the problem at our own level also along with the government’s effort. Kanwardeep Singh, the Director of the N.G.O. welcomed and introduced the guests. He also appreciated the blessings and presence of Mrs. Kamal Kuttapan, the spirit behind organizing this seminar. G. K. Gulati renowned columnist stressed on having the good intention to work as already laws are working. Besides, we have also a responsibility to contribute something for this cause. Another speaker, Pandit Om Prakash ji highlighted about the problem of child labour and appreciated the initiative of taking bold steps to eradicate this blot. Another speaker Dr. Manmohan Kaur, a renowned scholar and social activist spoke on the various dimensions of the problem of child labour in India and gave some concrete steps to be taken by the Government and all the citizens at their own levels. Dr. Amit Ludri, Department of Laws, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, the chief Guest of the day, emphasized on the practical side of the problem and suggested to understand and implement the laws of the land in this respect and also asked everyone to contribute in the eradication of the problem. Bupinder Singh an N.G.O. activist, Dr. Manish Sharma of the Department of Gandhian Studies, Deepak Hasiza, Prof. Suneera Kapoor from Shimla also participated. On this occasion Youth Power-Igniting Hopes also appointed Lucky Palta advocate as the Manager on the committee to look into the state of child labour in tricity. An appeal was also made by Harmeek Singh, President to the youth to join the NGO for this noble cause who also opened the membership accordingly. Certificates of participation were also distributed to the delegates who attended the event. Seminar was well attended. Divya Singh, President, Women Wing of this NGO who worked very hard in making this seminar a grand success, gave a vote of thanks to the Guests and all present in the Seminar according to Prof. Manohar Lal Sharma, Chairman, Department of Gandhian Studies, P.U.
