Sikh bodies gove Punjab Bandh call on Monday

LUDHIANA: The Damdami Taksal and other Sikh organisations have given call for Punjab Bandh on Monday in protest against police firing on peaceful Sikh protestors in Ludhiana on Saturday.



Harnam Singh Dhumma, head of Damdami Taksal said that Sikhs had marched in protest against permission given to hold function to Nurmahalia sect despite the fact that  Sikhs opposed it. He said that BJP leaders supported Asgutosh, the head of Nurmahal sect. He said that Punjab government was playing with the sentiments of Sikh community.

Dhumma appealed to people of Punjab to observe complete bandh on Monday.It is recalled that one person had died in police firing on Saturday and several others were injured.


Meanwhile a report fron Phagwara said that All 31 sikh radicals, who were arrested on saturday under section 107/151 CRPC, while demonstrating against Ludhiana violence on saturday were released on bail last night.This was stated by Phagwara SDM Amarjeet Paul while talking to newsmen here today.

Meanwhile Phagwara DSP HPS Khakh said that Police has made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident during bandh call of monday. He said that police personnels have been deputed on petrolling duties round the clock. DSP Khakh said that police was committed to protect the lives and property of the people.
