PATIALA: The eminent scholars of physical education, present at the National seminar organized by the department of Physical education of Punjabi university, unanimously resolved that a high level committee of the government officials and experts in physical education be constituted to suggest the criteria for appointment of physical education lecturers for the consideration of state government.
In the seminar, which concluded here today and was organised on the theme 'Emerging trends in physical education', it was resolved that in the appointment of physical education lecturers (PTI's, DPE's and lecturers) in government as well as aided schools due weightage should be given to the achievements of candidate in games and sports along with the academic achievements.
It was also resolved was that a National Council of Physical Education like Medical Council of India be constituted to guide the development of Physical Education in all aspects in the country.
Padam Shree Awardee Kamaljit Sandhu Koonar, OSD (National Camps), NIS, Patiala, who was the chief guest of the valedictory session of this two day seminar, appreciated the efforts of physical education department for conducting such seminar. She said that this seminar would give a platform to the physical educationalists to stand together and develop strategies for development of this subject.
About 110 papers were presented in the form of PPT's and posters by eminent scholars and physical eduationalists during this two day event. More than 200 delegates from far off places participated in the seminar, which was the first national seminar of physical education department in Punjab. During this seminar, various topics including national sports policy, health status of Punjab government employees, sociological view of Indian sports, latest trends for physical education teachers, health related fitness among women etc were discussed at length.
Dr. G.S. Kang head, physical education department, thanked all the eminent scholars of physical education, delegates and students for their participation and positive response to this seminar. He welcomed the suggestions for the further improvements in such type of seminars. The department also organized a cultural show for delegates and participants' late last evening.
