Chandigarh Tourism Club reviews tourism activities

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Tourism Club today organized its last meeting of the year 2009 at Hotel Parkview, Sector 24. UT Home-cum-Tourism Secretary, Ram Niwas was the chief guest on the occasion. The objective of the meeting was Business Networking with Glimpses of Tourism Activities in 2009 & unveiling of Agenda 2010.



Niwas on the occasion disclosed various plans of the Chandigarh Administration for projecting the city as a happening city in the world tourism map. The Administration is going to organize its first ever Chandigarh Marathon in which many foreign world class athletes and celebrities will be participating. Talking of the infrastructure front he said that around Rs. 17 crores have already been allocated for the up-gradation of the existing Tourism Infrastructure. He revealed that the Administration is already in the process of giving a new-look to the Sukhna Lake. The Terrace Garden is being developed at the Regulator End and Sukhna Lake Island is also redeveloped into a flower valley.

HS said that Rs. 2.19 crore have been allocated for the revamping of the Rose Garden. 300 new varieties of Roses have already been planted and another 500 new varieties are being procured. In the Southern Sectors, area around the Beant Singh Memorial and New Lake Sector 42 is being redeveloped. Garden of Palm with as many as 70 different varieties of Palms has been conceptualized for the area. Around 5 crores have been sanctioned for the Theme Lighting of the City’s popular buildings. Besides the infrastructure, the Administration has kept its promise of making the lives of its residents culturally rich, the success of first Chandigarh National Crafts Mela, Theatre Festival, Chandigarh Carnival etc talks of it, added Niwas.

Managing Director, CITCO,  D K Tiwari distributed awards to various dignitaries for their extraordinary contribution in their concerned fields. MC Commissioner, Dr. Roshan Sankaria, Director Tourism, Amandeep Kaur and Secretary General, Chandigarh Tourism Club, Gulshan were also present on the occasion.
