ROPAR: Punjab Health minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla seeks CBI probe into alleged irregularities highlighted in doctors’ recruitment conducted by the Punjab State Service Commission (PPSC), Patiala to ensure fair and transparent investigation.
She was here on Thursday to preside over a function at an annual prize distribution function NCC wing of Government College, Ropar.
While addressing mediapersons she said, “I raised this issue during the Vidhan Sabha proceedings and the Chief Minister asserted of a vigilance inquiry into the episode.
Instead of vigilance, the CBI should be handed over this case for investigation,” she said.
Talking about the government-run generic drug stores, Chawla said Punjab was leading the nation in running these stores efficiently and serving needy patients. Chawla revealed that very soon these stores would be giving cancer and surgery related medicines too. She said that the Jan Aushadhi Centre being run at Amritsar was leading in Punjab in terms of sale of drugs.
Replying to a query, she stated that cancer is another name of death and Punjab needs super speciality hospitals. “Besides this we plan to start mammography in five government-run hospitals in the state.
Mobile vans will be introduced to spread cancer awareness as well as provide treatment to the people,” she said.
Criticising the role of Railway Minister Mamata Bannerjee and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati regarding the Bill, she said both of them had no right to seek women votes now and should quit the politics.
