AMRITSAR: With a view to reap twin benefits of ending the pollution woes and en-cashing the medicinal value of plants, Punjab Government comes up with a idea of setting up Herbal Gardens in the State.
Implementing the new plan, State’s first Herbal Garden has been set up in the holy city of Amritsar. The Garden has 30 different species of plants right from Kachnar(Bauhinia-varigata), Brahmi(Bicopa-maneri), Amaltas(Cassia-fistula), Amla (Embelica-officenalis), Vasa(Ada-toda-vasaka) to Kawargandal (Alovera).
Inaugurating the Garden, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Punjab Prof. Laxmi Kanta Chalwa, said that the Herbal plants will go a long way in reducing the pollution level of the city and will energize the people coming to the Garden for morning walk. She informed that such Herbal Gardens would be set up in each district of the State and directions have already been issued to the Deputy Commissioners, Municipal Commissioners and Civil Surgeons to find suitable spaces for setting up such Gardens. She further informed that a nursery for preparing the saplings of Herbal plants is also being set up at Dyalpur Sodhian in Mohali.
Mayor Shwait Malik said that adequate provision for planting Herbal plants would be made in all the Gardens falling in the limits of Municipal Corporation.
Civil Surgeon, Amritsar Dr. Lehmbar Singh appreciated the initiative of State Government to set up Herbal Garden in Amritsar and said that the Herbal plants would not only reduce the pollution level but would also provide relief to the people through their medicinal value.
Director, AYUSH Dr. Rakesh Sharma, informed that a project of setting up a special Herbal Garden in Amritsar, spreading to about 7 acres of land is in the pipe line and it would be materialized as soon as suitable land for setting up the Garden is obtained and some other formalities are completed.
