FATEHGARH SAHIB: Dr Balwinder Singh, Reader in the Department of Commerce and Business Management at Guru Nanak Dev University(GNDU), Amritsar is dedicated to research in financing.  More than fifty  research papers of Dr Balwinder Singh have  been  already published  and  accepted  in various International and National journals of repute.  

He participated in different advanced courses, seminars, conferences and workshops. Dr Singh, whose specialization is Accounting and Finance, had  attended three International and more than twenty five National conferences so far.His mission is to create more awareness among  students of rural areas regarding carrier opportunities and future planning.  Dr Singh's, whose  thesis of M.Phil was 'Performance of Regional Rural Banks in Punjab'   Ph.D thesis was on  "Performance Evaluation of Initial Public Offerings" (IPO's) in India.

Dr Balwinder have developed expertise in the first paper of NET, "Teaching and Research Aptitude". He is teaching this paper in the Centre for Preparation of Competitive Examinations of GNDU for the last ten years and more than 200 students have cleared NET under his guidance. He is also teaching Commerce optional paper to Civil Services students in AIS Centre of GNDU for last seven years. He also performed various administrative responsibilities in the university .He served as a Member Board of Control, Member Board of Studies, Member of Faculty of Economics and  Business, Member of Moderation Committee, Deputy Director of AIS Pre Examination Coaching Centre etc. He supervised many students of PhD, M. Phil and MBA. He is also making immense contribution as a Member of Learned Societies and other academic bodies. He is a Life Member of Quality Circle Forum of India and Indian Commerce Association also.
 
He is using innovation in methodology, evaluation, teaching material,teaching aids and Curriculum Development etc. He has developed e-mail group to Interact with students through emails. He sends downloaded study material from internet to his students. Students submit their seminars and assignments to him through emails. He also maintains Electronic library for the students presently having 4200 articles, reports, surveys, e-magazines, journals, project reports and seminar reports. Students are encouraged by him to sit together and discuss their academic problems in Quality Circles. He encourages Mock Trading among the Students.

Talking to this correspondent Dr Balwinder  appreciated efforts of  Dr Jai Rup Singh, VC  GNDU who successfully created conducive research environment in the University. He also thanked Dr A.S Sidhu, Head Department of Commerce and Business Management of the University for his Cooperation and guidance.

Dr Singh undertakes extension and field outreach activities such as delivery of lectures in UGC sponsored refresher courses. He also guide students  to prepare for UGC( NET) test to M.Com students of various colleges and delivered  extension lectures on 'Recent Developments in Banking Sector' to B.Com and M.Com students of various colleges.

Talking about his PhD thesis Dr Balwinder Singh Said IPO's has been aneglected area of research in India.
Dr Singh wants to create his own website to put his lectures, research work and students' contribution on it.
