FATEHGARH SAHIB: Prof Gurpreet Kaur, Registrar, Sri Sukhmani Group of Institutions said on Monday that in the present scenario of globalization and liberalization of economy, technical education has become one of the important components of human resource development. In an exclusive interview with Punjabnewsline.com Gurpreet Kaur opined that Technical Education combines academic, occupational, non-occupational and life skills, which leads to further education and employment. It prepares students for further education, occupation and life. Gurpreet who did Master of Computer in Management form Pane University, Pune is presently pursuing Ph.D. She has ten year experience in teaching and administration. She had written a book on system Analysis and Design' for B.Tech , CSE/IT students. She stated that the basic aim of technical/ career education is to prepare the students community for optimum quality of individual and family life and to be more competitive in the world economy. As a vital and progressive part of the total education system, technical education endeavors to provide students with skills that prepares them as workforce for business houses and industry. Now a days educational institution is working diligently to make technical education more occupation oriented. Though a great need is felt that educational/ technical institutions and industry should walk together to develop a technical education system which would give more emphases on aspects of developing high degree of practical skills for building sophisticated machines, equipments, software etc. The development and scope of technical education will improve if there is more industry participation. Some tailor made short-term training programmer can also be included greater industry participation can also improve the problem of unemployment. The interaction between industry and institution should be improved. These days technical institutions strive hard to establish and maintain cooperative working relations with leaders in industry, business organizations and professional agencies, said Gurpreet Kaur. The objective of technical education in 21st century has always been to prepare highly skilled workforce for enterprises and to encourage professional and students to consider 'self employment' as a career option. Also training in entrepreneurship for optional courses has been the aim of technical education in India. She said that in India technical education is imparted at various levels such as diploma, degree research (in specified fields) catering to various aspects of technical Development and economic progress. In the coming decades more stress should be given to rural areas. As majority of our population is in agriculture; rural technology and agriculture; rural engineering may also be included. It should also be ensured that technical subjects should not be crammed but understood so that technical education brings one closer to scientific truths, to new horizons and interpretations. The objective of technical education should not be reproduction of social inequalities. The tenets of multi-faith, non religious, beyond the boundaries of race, intelligence, creeds, color, caste etc. Industries, nowadays are interested in quality education and to meet the expectations of industry seminars, training camps and workshops can be arranged throughout the country. Gurpreet said that the All India council for Technical education (AICTE) keeps on giving new guidelines to keep abreast with the latest technologies. The council keeps considering various factors into consideration like quality education, adequate trained faculty, reasonable fees structure and good employment opportunities. |
