LUDHIANA: Surjit Hockey Academy of Jalandhar annexed another trophy to adorn their showcase as they defeated Sangurur Hockey Academy in the final by 5-2 in the Western Union Punjab Hockey League for Under-16 at the Punjab Agricultural University  Astroturf Stadium here today. The winners led 3-1 at half time.

Surjit Hockey Academy had earlier emerged winners in the WU PHL Under-12 tournament. Ranjit Hockey Academy of Amritsar outclassed Punjab Agricultural University  by 6-0 in the Hard Line Cup contest.

Surjit Hockey Academy started their final campaign on a whirlwind fashion. They opened their account in the third minute. Meaning business from the word 'go' the Jalandhar boys launched their offence and were awarded a penalty stroke. Jaskaran converted the stroke in a smooth action to put their team ahead.

Maintaing their pressure, Surjit Academy met another success in the 17th minute and this time Jaskaran pierced the Sangrur defence before sending the ball into the goal. Hardly  had the cheers of Surjit Hockey Academy supporters had died down, when they struck again in the next minute through Prabhdeep who scored a field goal (3-0).

Sangrur Hockey Academy retaliated and forced their first penalty and Amandeep converted it with a hot shot.The fourth goal for Surjit Hockey Academy came in the 43rd minute when Karan Pal converted their sixth penalty corner (4-1). The Jalandhar team completed their scorecard with a 52nd minute goal scored by  Gursahib. Though under pressure, Sangrur Academy reduced the margin in the 58th minute through Amandeep. Surjit Academy forced nine penalty corners but could convert only two. Sangrur were able to convert one out of three penalty corners  awarded to them.

Ranjit Hockey Academy outclassed PAU in all departments of the game for the third and fourth positions. The winners scored through Satinder (17th, 38th, 52nd), Gurjot (6th), Kawar Subhey (36th) and Bhupinder Singh  (54th). PAU Vice-Chancellor KS Aulakh distributed the prizes. Punjab Sports Director Pargat Singh and Chief Coordinator of the PHL Sukhvir Singh Grewal were also present on the occasion.
