Punjab police makes record recovery of liquor in elections

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police during recent elections made a record recovery of liquor haul from various parts of the state, which was stored as well as being transported to lure the voters.  




Disclosing this here Thursday a spokesman of the state police said that during these elections 11,782 Kgs. of Lahan, 7422 Ltrs. of illicit liquor and 42,562 ltrs. of licit but unaccounted liquor was recovered at various places. Maximum 2290 Kgs. of Lahan was recovered in Amritsar district.

Similarly, maximum recovery of illicit liquor (1653 ltrs.) was made in Ropar and licit liquor (12982 ltrs.) in Barnala.
  
The spokesman further said that the specific directions were given to the officers in field to check the movement and distribution of liquor as excessive consumption by the voters could lead to a tragic hooch.
