MOHALI: Delhi scored an effortless 102 runs victory over Himachal Pradesh in the North Zone One-Day Ranji Trophy Tournament at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium here Wednesday.
Required to score 171 runs for victory, Himachal Pradesh were bundled out for 68 runs. The Himachal Pradesh batsmen could not cope up with the pace battery of Ashish Nehra (3 for 18), Pradeep Jaiveer Sangwan (3 for 26) and Amit Bhandari (3 for 23). Himachal Pradesh won the toss and elected to field. Virender Sehwag promised a good show in the World Cup, as today he hit half century before he was run out by Dogra.His knock came in 99 minutes. He faced 66 deliveries and hit nine fours. Akash Chopra (24) and Gautam Gambhir (5) opened the Delhi innings. They could put on 20 runs before Gautam was bowled by Jitender Mehta (3 for 59). New comer Shikhar Dhawan also departed soon by contributing only one run at team's total of 34. Delhi were dismissed 170 runs. Medium pacer Jitender Mehta and right arm off spinner Sarandeep Singh (3 for 23 from 8.3 overs) were the most successful bowlers. Himachal innings lasted 114 minutes and they could muster only 58 runs in in 23.3 overs. only Sandeep Sharma (20) and VS Malik (13) would reach the double figure as the Delhi pacers unsettled the Himachal batsmen. Delhi gained five points and Himachal one.
