CHANDIGARH: Senior Congress leader and Former Local Bodies Minister Chaudhary Jagjit Singh could not retain his seat for sixth time.
In last Punjab assembly elections, he had created a record of sorts by bagging the Kartarpur Assembly seat for the fifth time by defeating his nearest rival Charanjit Singh Atwal of the Shiromani Akali Dal by a margin of 4119 votes.
Chaudhary was perhaps the only leader of Punjab who has retained a seat for the fifth time in last assembly election . He had emerged a winner in 1980, 1985, 1992 and during the 1997 anti-Congress wave also but this time he was defeated from Avinash Chander of SAD-BJP alliance candidate from Kartarpur. |
