CHANDIGARH: On the sidelines of pitched political battle between Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and SAD president and CM in waiting Parkash Singh Badal in Punjab, in a far corner of state, another battle was being fought between “Ravana” and Rama, the symbols of evil and truth.
The city of Pathankot on Jammu and Kashmir border had witnessed an interesting tug of war between BJP candidate Master Mohan Lal who plays character of ‘Ravana’ in local Ram Lila, an epic based on Hindu scripture Ramayana and Ashok Kumar Congress candidate who plays ‘Lord Rama’. Interestingly, it is the evil that has prevailed upon truth once again. Master Mohan Lal has defeated his rival by 8535 votes for the second time. During 2202 assembly elections Ashok Kumar had knocked out Mohan Lal. Master Mohan Lal hadd won this seat from Ashok Kumar in 1997. Master Mohan Lal a senior BJP leader is expected to be inducted into Punjab cabinet. He was deputy minister of forest in the previous government of Parkash Singh Badal. The election in Pathankot constituency had also witnessed an interesting poster war. The supporters of Ashok Kumar had displayed wall posters calling upon people to defeat the ‘Ravana’ the king of evil. The supporters of Mohan Lal had answered it with posters asking people to send ‘Rama’ on exile for 13 years. In the epic, Raja Dashrath had ordered Lord Rama to go on 13 years exile. |
