AILWA co-founder Abu Thwahir passes away Print E-mail

MUMBAI:  Abubaker Thwahir (Dr), Co-Founder of All India Letter-Writers Association, 27 years old Registered NGO of Conscience Keepers of India entered as a World Record in the Limca Book of Records, passed away on Saturday 3rd March, 2007 in Mumbai. He was  60 years old.

This was informed by Dr. Leo Rebello, Co-Founder and President of AILWA in an official Press Release on Monday.
 
Abu had retired from the Tata Electric Company in February 2006 as Asst. Manager and was writing a regular column for Agni Times since then. AILWA bestowed on him Knight of Conscience, the highest AILWA recognition in 2003, for his outstanding  contribution to Letter-Writing.  He co-authored a book Free, Fair and Fearless with  Dr. Leo Rebello, which was released in December 2005, at the AILWA Silver Jubilee function attended by Dr. Mrs. Sushila Rani Patel, Mr.YP Singh, IPS Retd., and others.
 
Husain Dalwai, Ex MP and Chairman of Minorities Commission, Maharashtra wrote in the Foreword to Free, Fair and Fearless as under :
 
"Dr. Abubakar Thwahir is a Muslim scholar who knows his fundamentals well. His writings though not as fiery as that of Dr. Leo's, nevertheless have candour and simplicity of a pure person. He may not be as prolific or defiant as Dr. Leo Rebello, but he says what is needed to be said all the same.  Creative motivator, devout, simple, he is also a sincere soul working silently towards the desired goal of better  governance leading to human welfare".
 
Abu is survived by his wife Aysha, married daughter (Naseema) and married son (Mehboob) and grandchildren.
