Punjab DGP honours Asian Games winners |

CHANDIGARH: Punjab DGP R.S. Gill Tuesday honored Athlete Manjit Kaur and Wrestler Palwinder Singh Cheema, both Inspectors in state police for their outstanding performance in the 15th Asian Games held recently at Doha (Qatar).
Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the state police said that the DGP presented two cheques of Rs. 1,75,000/- and Rs. 1 Lac on behalf of All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB), New Delhi and Punjab Police to Shri Harbhajan Singh father of athlete Manjit Kaur. Similarly, two cheques of Rs. 50,000 each were handed over to Wrestler Palwinder Singh Cheema on behalf of Punjab Police and AIPSCB. It may be mentioned here that the then state police chief Shri S. S. Virk had announced the cash prize Rs. 1 Lac, 50,000 & 25,000 respectively for its participating players on their winning gold, silver and bronze medal in these games. The spokesman informed that Manjit Kaur won gold medal in 4x400 mt. relay race and silver in 400 mt. individual. Wrestler Palwinder Singh Cheema won a bronze medal in 120 Kg free style category. The spokesman added that a cheque of Rs. 50,000 has also been received from AIPSCB for Punjab Police Weightlifter Ct. Sarabjit Singh Kanda (plus 105 Kg), who has improved his own national record of 203 Kg by lifting 204 Kg in Senior National Weightlifting Championship held at Vishakapatnam from December 10 to 14, 2006. |
